There’s a new “Chucky” in town. Connecticut’s, almost one year old Groundhog. The unofficial weather man is called “Connecticut Chuckles VIII”. His home is the Lutz Children’s Museum in Manchester. We will see how he predict’s the next few months on Groundhog Day Feb. 2. he will also be sworn in that day as the state’s official groundhog.
For you history buffs, Groundhog Day started with German settlers who brought a tradition called Candlemas Day in the 1770′s. It is mid way through winter and if the weather was fair, the second half of winter would be stormy and cold. The “hedgehog” had done this back in Europe and then adopted a “groundhog” in America. So, let’s see how our new state furry friend does on his first big day of the year, watch at the Lutz Children’s Museum in Manchester at 6am on “Chuckles VIII” day Feb. 2. C’mon “Chucky” it’s all up to you! Joe Hann
