Ingrid Michaelson, along with 21 students from Sandy Hook Elementary School, came together to record “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” in tribute to the lives lost in last month’s horrific school shooting.

A video for the Judy Garland classic, which was recorded at the home studio of Talking Heads and Tom Tom Club members Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth, shows the kids preparing for the song with their music teacher, Sabrina Post.

“We are here to give that as a gift to so many who live around us to move forward,” Post tells the students. “And to keep memories alive.”

Ingrid, who sings and plays ukulele on the track, told Good Morning America that she hoped the track would not only make money for the community, but could offer an “afternoon of enjoyment for these kids” who had been through so much.

Tim Hayes, CBGB owner and executive producer of the song, also hoped the song would help in the healing process.

“The children were asked to sing the song as if it was a prayer,” Hayes said in a statement. “That emotion really comes though when the children sing their ‘oooos,’ which transforms the recording into something truly spiritual.”

Proceeds from the song, available on Amazon and iTunes, will go to Newtown Youth Academy and United Way of Western Connecticut.
