Next month, Nils Lofgren celebrates 28 years as a member of Bruce Springsteen‘s E Street Band. In that time, he’s gotten tight with his “boss.” So, last week, when The Washington Post published an editorial critical of Springsteen’s use of a telepromter, Nils responded with a letter to the editor.
Lofgren felt that the Post painted an incomplete picture of Springsteen’s use of the technology, given that The E Street Band’s live repertoire is larger than that of most other artists, the setlists are more fluid, and they are subject to change with little or no notice.
As for the current tour for Wrecking Ball, it’s a much different experience for Lofgren than past E Street tours because of the absence of the iconic sax player Clarence Clemons. But he points out that Springsteen has done a great job of paying tribute to fallen members of The E Street Band.
Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band’s U.S. tour extends through early May; after that, they go to Europe. Nils Lofgren, meanwhile, has a new solo album called Old School, which features guest vocals from Paul Rodgers, Lou Gramm of Foreigner and Sam Moore of Sam & Dave.
